Beauty Addict:How Toxic are you?

October 12th, 2007 by author

Channel 4 aired their latest challenging programme last night presented by Property Ladder icon Sarah Beany. The programme followed two sisters in their efforts to reduce their toxic overload from their skincare and beauty regime.

Thankfully Channel 4 did not shy away from the challenge and we would like to commend their bravery in highlighting the excessive use of parabens, sodium laureth sulfate and triclosan in skincare and beauty products.

Thankfully Channel 4 did not shy away from the challenge and we would like to commend their bravery inThe levels of toxins in the sister’s blood and urine were tested before starting the challenge and then again after they had used chemical safe products for 2 weeks. After just two weeks, they had significantly reduced the levels in their bodies.

Take the challenge yourself and choose skincare and beauty products which are free from parabens, SLS, triclosan, alcohol, perfumes and colouring!

EWG - Research what’s actually in baby skincare products

August 14th, 2007 by author

Most of us assume that our baby products are the most gentle skincare to use on delicate newborn skin but according to Environmental Working Group (EWG) this may not always be the case.

The EWG warns that companies are not required to test children’s products before selling them and so have taken it upon themselves to research the area themselves. They are researching the number of products and type of products commonly used on children under 10 http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/survey_kids/index.php?nothanks=1. So why not take a minute and join the research.

If you get a chance, check out their assessments on other skincare products, fragrances and make-up which makes interesting reading.

Infertility in men linked to the increased use of chemicals

July 26th, 2007 by author

The rise in infertility has been blamed on the wonders of modern life – tighter underwear, the increased use of laptops and mobile phones, increased stress levels and poor diet.

There is also a secret threat to men’s fertility – chemicals. Maybe you think this doesn’t pose a threat to you or your partner because they don’t work in a laboratory, on a construction site or as a cleaner. If only it was that simple… Chemicals surround our everyday lives completely. From the moment a man gets into the shower he is inhaling and absorbing chemicals which are absorbed into the blood and pumped all around his body.

Chemicals such as parabens are widely used in skincare products to preserve them and have been linked to infertility and birth defects. Used in small quantities parabens are thought to be safe but with the increase use of multiple skincare products a day, we can’t really know how they will affect the body.

Both Parabens and Phthalates, a chemical released from plastic products, have been widely outed due to their potential risk to health and fertility. Research shows that these chemicals mimic and disrupt hormones causing infertility.  The fact of the matter is, we do not know the true effect of these chemicals on the body.

If you are looking for skincare products free from parabens and phthalates, check the back of skincare packs and review ingredients or visit www.elave.co.uk
